How to get a great headshot | Mainline Philadelphia Photographer

So you are ready for your upcoming headshot session and you want a great headshot. We all want a great headshot. So, what do you do?

Before showing up for your headshot session, be prepared:

  • What are you going to wear. Your outfit should reflect the image you want to portray to others. Sometimes you may want to bring more than one outfit to your session. If you are a business professional, a suit jacket with tie is the most popular look. You can dress down by removing the tie, or switch to a casual collared shirt for a second look. Same goes for ladies, a jacket is always great for professionals and a second outfit could be with a blouse. Try to avoid outfits with bold patterens and logos unless you're in the arts and it is part of your look. Actors tend to wear casual clothes and if you're trying to get a certain part, then consider wearing something appropriate for that part.

  • Grooming. Hair should be neat. Same goes for men’s facial hair. Ladies makeup should be what you normally wear at work; and for actors, no makeup is fine so casting directors can see your true face.

  • Practice your smile. Your smile shows how approachable you are. If you do not look approachable then you may get overlooked for an interview or casting call. Look in the mirror and see what you look like. We’ll coach you to get a great smile for your headshot.

  • Confidence. Like your smile, confidence is equally important for grabbing the attention of a hiring manager or casting director. Your eyes show your confidence, and we can help you show your confidence.
